The project ECORUTOUR (Environmentally COmpatible RUral TOURism in protected areas for a sustainable development at low emission of greenhouse gasses) is co-financed at 50% by the Europian commission Environment D.G. Unit Life + Environment Policy and Governance.
The aim of the project is to disseminate awareness into rural tourism sector concerning the real emission of CO2 both to the user and the donors of tourist services, in particular operating inside protected areas, where there is a greater attention for the respect and the safeguard of the environment, and operating in various directions:
1) promoting awareness on the effective production of CO2 caused by meal preparation along different modalities (usual catering, zero food mile, etc.);
2) collecting indications concerning the real emission of CO2 due to the offer of farm accommodation services.
Into the two project sites of the regions Emilia-Romagna and Latium (Po river delta and Laga mountains Reserve Parks) there are proper legislations for the landscape protection but there is a lack of actions enabling more correct ecological approaches to the management of tourist fluxes and services through the acquisition of more awareness to the problem for the users, the operators and the managers of tourist services;
3) evaluating in terms of CO2 emissions the impact of the tourist travels.
